Woodcut

On Wednesday I am doing the course: 'The basics of relief' First 3 lessons we just printed colours on top of each other to see what happens, we tried it with opaque ink, transparent ink and with overlapping both. It was fascinating to see what you could do with just a few colours and a few shapes..

First woodcut, I just wanted to try the tools and decided to make my favourite artist: Egon Schiele

But that was just to experiment, now the real work starts. I have decided to make a woodcut named:

'Zondvloed' 

Het woord 'zondvloed', afkomstig van het Middelnederlandse sintvloed, betekent oorspronkelijk aanhoudende vloed, maar doordat het volksetymologisch in verband werd gebracht met het begrip zonde, is het eerste lid vervormd geraakt.

Oftewel:

In het eerste boek van de Bijbel, Genesis, staat het verhaal van de zondvloed. Er wordt verteld hoe God aan Noach de opdracht geeft een ark te bouwen. Er zal een grote vloed komen die alle leven, mens en dier zal vernietigen omdat er groot onrecht en ongeloof onder de mensen is ontstaan. Van alle dieren neemt Noach een paar aan boord. Nadat Noach met zijn vrouw en kinderen aan boord gegaan is, komt er inderdaad een grote vloed die alles vernietigt.

Course is finished and I have got my first 3 credits in the pocket.

The comments made mainly by the teacher and my colleague students: It was an interesting happening in the image, a lot of things to see. I should work a bit more with different kind of lines, thicker and thinner, this might give it a bit more depth. The way I made this woodcut was interesting for illustration for a book they said. We will see if I might do something with that.

The end is near

This is going to be my year, although I am going to try my very best to make this my year, my year. It means I am going to graduate around May 2013. For this I am working on a big project and I want it to be stunning, mind blowing and more! To begin with, I want to take my Tetris project as a base for this new project. Art and Design boundaries

This is a new course I am joining, it started last week, Monday 12 March. In this course we first talked about public art, street art and environmental art. The teacher introduced us to these kinds of art by showing a powerpoint with works in there from: Banksy Anish Kapoor Niki de saint Phalle Antony Gormley After that we got the assignment: Combine things like street art, environmental art and public art. Tell the public your story, your style and everyone's creative philosophy in this project. Make your own public work for one day. I came with the next idea: I will make make ball shaped pieces of porcelain. I will stand somewhere in the public space where a lot of people are passing by. I will ask the persons who pass by, to grab 1 ball and throw it at the ground.
