Japanese water colour woodcut

Afbeelding
2 weeks ago I started a course about Japanese water colour woodcuts. We have had some information about the technique so far and we got the blocks, now we have to make a sketch and start cutting.  I am thinking of staying in the theme of my last woodcut. My interests go out to Medusa  I am working on the sketches at the moment. Firts results, it is a pretty difficult thing to do. The wood chips pretty easy so I make a lot of 'mistake' but maybe that is not a big problem at the end, lets hope. Finished both of the blocks and printed them, I was surprised by the result. I already send them home so I could not make a picture, but I will do this when I am home.

Silkscreen printing

I joined the class of silkscreen printing. I am in many courses already but I still wanted to make the most of this exchange. When I had made my woodcut I heard a lot of comments about my drawing style - maybe you should make illustrations for books - so I decided to make a little book. It woks very easy, I print on 1 big paper and fold it at the end, cut some edges and voilá done. I decided to pick the subject I did earlier this year. This project didn't work out because of circumstances. So this is a nice opportunity to give it another go. After drawing/writing all the 16 field on the paper I started printing them. After finishing the prints, I started folding the papers. Then I sowed the books together with a sowing machine. And here is the result.

Last week we have set up a exhibition from the work we have made at the contemporary drawing class, was an interesting overview, very nice to see the different interpretations although we all had the same task.

Conversation based art work

Today we got divided in 2 groups of 3 people to do the next assignment: We had to get to know each other, every information you find interesting from one another you had to write down or draw a little doodle or something. We got an hour to have this conversation with the 3 of us. After that you had to use 3 different kind of materials to make a portrait. Not a portrait as we used to think of, a face or features from a person, but it could be a portrait with a wide variety, it could be about only 1 person or you made 1 of al 3 of them (if you included yourself). I did it this way: I collected not only information that was spoken but also how people acted while we where having the chat, what they did and what they where wearing etc. Then I combined these things in a big 'drawing'. This course is mainly about how a line can act on the paper, that is not only a line with a pencil, but it can also be a line that is made by paper tape or a line that only exists for a few seconds (a

I have joined this course on Weboodi, the system that let you enrol for classes. I had no idea what to expect, and since I am not really learning to become a teacher I was not so sure about this class, but in the end I have to get enough credits, so I went there to try it. Today was the first class from 17:00 till 18:30. It is an online course, so the first class was on the screen, the teacher was giving a lecture while he was sitting in Ohio. I didn't know what to expect from an online course but it was very interesting so far. They set up everything very well like sound and internet connection. He explained what was the course about. In short version it is about how we identify ourselves, how do you see yourself and how do others see you? How does this effect your way of teaching other human beings the things you teach them, the subjects you choose, do they have to do anything with your background, how you have been brought up, how you see the world. How different identities are

Contemporary drawing: Line as a border

We have had a new assignment. It is called: Line as a border.  I have to think about borders around me. They can be in various forms as in: Physical, mental, public, private, real or unreal and so on. Materials are free and size as well.  We had to make a plan about our thoughts about border as a line.  I haven't had a exact idea yet but there where a few things that where interesting to do experiments with: * Context as a border * A map with it's borders * And then I thought of things that may look like they do not have a border. For example dreaming or internet. But then if you go into that, that is untrue because the border of a dream is waking up and the border of internet is a device. (With the information I collect I want to see what I can create) I have been looking into these (living) artists: - Simon Evans - Nedko Solakov - Joseph Grigely What interest me in these artists is:  The way Simon puts everything in order as we can see in an a
